Why do we focus on ending violence against children and women? First of all, we stand against ALL forms of violence. It is unacceptable and never the answer. We acknowledge that men and gender diverse people also experience violence and need support on their journeys of healing and recovery too. The reason we have chosen to end violence against children and women is because we believe these issues need the most attention (just look at the stats!) and is where we can make the most difference. Globally it’s estimated that 1 in 2 children experience some form of violence each year and in Australia, almost one child is killed every fortnight at the hands of a parent. More than 1 in 3 women have experienced domestic or sexual violence globally and in Australia, on average, one woman A WEEK is murdered by her current or former partner. Women are at a greater risk of family, domestic and sexual violence with 1 in 5 women having been sexually assaulted since the age of 15 compared to 1 in 20 men. 1 billion children experienced violence in the last year alone.
