Last week we were privileged to be invited to @yuimanakazato’s latest Paris couture show, #BLUE. Described as a ‘more positive look to the future and homage to Mother Earth’. The collection situated environmental responsibility at its core, including the use of deadstock fabrics, a lightweight set made of paper (designed to be recycled at the end of the show) and the house’s continued championing of @spiber_inc’s Brewed ProteinTM materials. For this collection, Nakazato collaborated with indigo farmer and master dyer @buaisou_i who is based in Tokushima, Japan. The traditional technique of Shibori (tie die) with Aizome (Japanese indigo) combined with the designer’s Biosmocking process gave the Brewed ProteinTM fabric a beautiful new aesthetic. It is in the combination of traditional Japanese craft merged with cutting-edge biotech materials where Yuima’s work is truly compelling. A designer grounded in heritage and exploring the creative opportunities opened up through biotechnology and biomaterials.
