Today kicks off the official Capital Campaign for Audre’s Den, a non-profit bookstore and third space dedicated to reading, writing, and resting. The journey to this point has been a true Alchemist's journey. I have explored, I have fallen, I've been, hurt, I've gotten up, and I'm getting up yet again and baby these wings of fire are ready to soar. Audre Lorde has been a guiding post for me since my graduate school days. Her words were a balm when I couldn't pay my rent or didn't know where my next meal would come from, but still had to make sure that paper got in on time. My fellow Pisces sister/auntie/ancestor wrote a path to our freedom a long time ago. It's time those words take flight. Our goal is to raise $100,000 by the end of February, which also happens to be my 39th birthday (it's my @ava year). Furthermore, once opened, Audre's Den will be the only brick and mortar Black-owned bookstore in the state of SC. This is a big deal folks. Each day we will highlight a different Black woman author, share some about her work, and describe the type of woman who may relate to the female main character.
