Today I celebrated one year of marriage. I also celebrated one year to the month, of when I explanted. I remember hoping to not have my surgery until after the wedding, because I wanted those “womanly curves” in pictures. Which is proof of how for #explanting has taken me. In this moment a year ago, I still had so many fears about me worth + my body to society around me. I still feared once I lost those implants, my worth would some how fall short, not measure up or leave me with scars, to remind me every day of a decision I chose to set forth to purchase more “worth”. Losing those implants ended up being one of the favorite seasons of my self growth. It’s added so much more value and clarity surrounding all the ways I was searching to be valued. Find humans to surround you that remind you of your worth, regardless of what you wear/bring/or can’t bring to the table. It’s finding worth in your integrity, your mind, your empathy and compassion. Find worth in trying something hard, even when you know you’ll never be recognized. It’s finding the value in leaving people, a little better than you found them. Until society starts telling a different story on self growth, worth and validation, I’ll continue to speak up and out against things that no longer serve me. Been there, tried that and they lied. I’m sure there’s something you can attest to, you learned the hard way like this story? I can promise you, if you start trading one validation for looks in for validation on kindness, you’ll FEEL the difference. Which to me, feeling has always been 90% better than seeing. Try to accept yourself, not despite your flaws, but also because of them. We are all a little different & THAT is a truly beautiful thing.
