i started tufting in april 2019 and immediately took to the process, it’s a perfect way to physicalize improvisation. i love how fast i can be if i want to, but also how the process slows my busy mind. it’s joy-filled full-body making and i know that’s where i’m at my best. it was thrilling to finally share this work publicly back in december for @foundationforcontemporaryarts because it felt like my community was there to hold space for risk-taking debuts and unknown possibilities. plus knowing the funds from a potential sale would go right back into our artistic ecosystem (and into the hands of other artists) made it all make sense. now i’m enjoying sunny studio days and hosting visits and finally talking about these soft paintings. here’s a little peek at a few of them (thanks @nakazawastudio for the push, and to @loloafterdark and @meemeebye for your wisdom during our visits a few weeks back) it’s called “emergence” ✨ shout out to #pranayama for the excellent frame.
