It was incredibly special to moderate the final part of the working visit by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science in the context of (the contemporary impact of) our colonial and slavery past. The conversation that was held with, among others, Minister Robbert Dijkgraaf, State Secretary Gunay Uslu and representatives of OSCAM, the Municipality of Amsterdam, Imagine IC, Bijlmer Parktheater, New Metropolis Southeast and the future slavery museum was inspiring and motivating. Certainly within the context of the coming year in which we as the Netherlands will reflect on 150 years of the abolition of slavery. To quote Marian: "For OSCAM , the legacies and consequences of the Dutch trans-Atlantic slavery past, colonialism and the African diaspora in a more general sense touch the core of our existence. It concerns the stories of our ancestors but also colors our own reality today." I am very curious about the next steps that will be taken by the Ministry, and the future of OSCAM in it.
