Cassidy Wall is a sixth-generation Routt County resident and has shown pigs at the Routt County fair for the last six years.
"Agriculture and county fairs are part of our history and our roots in northwest Colorado," she said. "It's important to keep those traditions and history alive, and it's even better that local businesses stand behind us."
So was the case when John Evans, radiology manager at UCHealth Yampa Valley Medical Center in Steamboat Springs, represented the hospital during the recent livestock sale and bought Cassidy's pig.
Each fair season, UCHealth supports area youth with a scholarship by purchasing an animal. Cassidy is beginning her studies in the sonography program at Laramie County Community College in a small-town coincidence. Her interest in the medical field is a result of what she witnessed in the caregivers who supported her grandpa.
"There are so many unknowns with illness, and my grandpa's care team was there for all of my family," said Cassidy. "His team was there for him, and it inspired me to be able to do the same thing for patients and their families. The support by UCHealth for my education is huge. I hope to return to Routt County and see how I can make an impact there."”
