“The Party Is Over”. My third solo exhibition. 8th - 12th July, 11 Dray Walk, The Truman Brewery, Brick Lane.
This body of works, a series of oil paintings, explore mental health and identity, particularly in young men, using the self in these works as an everyman type figure, acting as a vehicle for the concepts present in the show, depicting the lone body in abstracted environments.
The title of this show, ‘The Party Is Over’, is taken from the 1970 Terence Dixon documentary portrait of James Baldwin; “Meeting the Man: James Baldwin in Paris”, in which Baldwin talks of the necessity of the fall of pretence and facade. These presentations of the self, entirely unguarded and raw, intend to open up conversations surrounding mental health, and the need for awareness and openness, especially amongst young men.
The show is hosted in aid of Mind Charity, supporting those struggling with mental heath problems, campaigning for improved services and continuing to raise awareness surround mental health, with a percentage of all artwork sales donated to Mind, as well as a print sale with 100% of profits donated to Mind.
