Consider this: If someone tries a new route for the first time, chances are they may misread the beta. They may go left when they should go right. They may get to an unknown section and have to work through it. They may have to ask for help. They may adjust.
When you see someone working on this route - a route you’ve never tried - will you rip them off the wall? Hurl criticisms at them from the ground while they try a sequence that you think you’d do differently? Will you tell them they never should have even tried in the first place?
No, you wouldn’t. So why is it different off the wall?
It’s pretty easy to point out the flaws you see in someone you’ve never met. It’s just as easy to criticize something you think you’d do differently without ever trying it for yourself first.
Brene Brown reminds us, “a leader is someone who holds her- or himself accountable for finding potential in people and processes.”
Instead of pointing out the flaws, how much more impressive is it to point out the successes?
You can’t make everyone happy. Honestly, that’s not the point anyway. The point is to make change.
Food for thought.
Be a leader, not a troll.
