Earth Month 2022: The Role of Business 🏭Business and industry are the sources of the vast majority of our planet’s greenhouse gases, which are contributing to climate change. The industrial sector alone is the highest emitting sector in the global economy, representing nearly a third of total greenhouse emissions. An economy that is built on extracting from people and the earth — along with a growth-at-any-cost mindset — has accelerated emissions and climate change. 🏡Businesses have a significant role to play in the causes of climate change, so they must be a part of the solutions. Business leaders must look to the leadership and wisdom of frontline communities to guide practices and solutions in order to reduce the risk climate change poses to their business and humanity. 💡This week, consider which of your business practices could be considered extractive and exploitation, and which equitable and regenerative. It is ok to find practices in the former - as well-meaning businesses and people within an extractive system, we almost certainly straddle both sides of the diagram right now.
