_ODE TO RED Red is speculated to be the first color humans mastered in fabrication, painting, and dyeing, and also has the longest perceptible wavelength to the human eye. During my mystery illness, in an effort to crawl out of the doldrums of chromatophobia, I searched "red" in my phone and my house and the depths of JStor and library archives. "UNEXPECTED RED", MAGA-PILLED, WHORES OF BABYLON, CHERRY STUDDED MARKETING CAMPAIGNS, WAR, SUPERNATURAL, VALENTINES, SCARLET LETTER, LASERS, CARTIER, THE SNAKEHEAD, WINE, CHARLIE BROWN "LOVE" BOOK, MY BLOODY SKINNED KNEE, RED LIGHT DISTRICT, PASSION OF THE CHRIST, SEX, LOUBOUTINS, MOURNING, POWER, RED CROSS, PROSPERITY...it goes on. Full of contradiction. Perhaps the most complex color and thus the most human - also perfect for the mystery and transformation the year of the snake represents.
