It’s happening. The six bottle babies we rescued last month are ready to leave the nest — or dock, if you will. Their Below Deck obsessed foster mom named them in a fit of inspiration: Pearl, Marina, Skipper, Sailor, Captain, and Anchor. “The nautical kittens,” she calls them. First thing to know about them: Having been hand raised in a home with other cats and dogs since before they could see, this adorable half dozen are phenomenally well socialized and adjusted. Second thing to know: They must go to forever homes either in pairs or to families where there’s already a social kitty that will be their buddy. We don’t do single kitten adoptions — it’s a bad idea because they often grow up frustrated without a feline buddy to frolic around with, and they end up scratching and biting humans. Lots of cats are given up for this reason. Also, having a single kitten this age is not a nice thing to do to that cat. It’s a lonely life — human companionship is awesome but not the same. Third thing: They’re both up for adoption and ELIGIBLE FOR FOSTER-TO-ADOPTstarting asap. Their foster mom says: “Pearl is a gem. She wants to be part of the gang, follows her siblings around and jumps into whatever they’re up to. When it's time to snuggle, she’s a cuddle puddle. Marina and Skipper are the smallest and fought the hardest when we first rescued them. Skipper was slow to eat but I stayed persistent, giving her sub-q fluids and keeping her warm. After a week she turned the corner and became a champion eater. She loves to talk and is a huge flirt. Sailor is ready for action. He’s a big fan of wrestling and developing a really good purrrrr. There's a reason why Captain is Captain. He's the biggest and a bruiser, the most physically advanced. First to climb out of his pen, first to figure out the cat trees, first to sprint across the apartment. Anchor was my favorite kitten to bottle feed as he was so insanely enthusiastic about it.
