Kalief Browder was 16 and wrongfully accused of stealing a backpack. He then spent 1,120 days (3 YEARS) in Rikers because he couldn’t afford bail. Tragically, today is the 5th Anniversary of his passing. Kalief Browder refused to admit guilt for a crime he did not commit. Kalief Browder was starved, beaten and abused by guards and inmates. Kalief Browder spent nearly 2 years of inhumane treatment in solitary confinement while incarcerated. The charges against him were eventually dismissed. “Time: The Kalief Browder Story” is on Netflix.
