On 20th September, an Ebola outbreak was declared in Uganda. Since then, MSF teams have been working alongside the Ministry of Health to support the response, applying our experience from other Ebola outbreaks.
____
This Ebola outbreak in Uganda is caused by a relatively rare variant of the virus, known as the Sudan strain, which currently has no vaccine. With the current outbreak, all health organisations involved in the response will have to do without this tool until trials have been conducted and an effective vaccine has been found.
MSF Epicentre, our unit dedicated to epidemiology and research, is collaborating with the Ministry of Health, to support epidemiological activities, including surveillance and infection control and prevention.
