A very late nod to National Lipstick Day. I spent over 16 years working under the brilliant Editor in Chief of Allure, @lindawellsny. She was a great journalist. She recognized that beauty was not fluff, that it had emotional, psychological and cultural significance. She and her writers reported on beauty, checked on claims that products made to see if they were scientifically true. The stories were never a regurgitation of press releases, claims were checked for truth, products sent to labs to see if the ingredients actually did what they were suppose to do, experts called. Linda has a great love of beauty and beauty products. She often described how makeup felt to the touch, how the colors made her feel. She wanted the photos we took to have an emotional and visceral resonance for the reader. She kept asking me to shoot in a lab that manufactured makeup. We found a lab. This photo is shot at the conveyer belt where the lipstick bullets come out before they are put into their cases. The photographer @nicolasmoore had beautiful @annev grabbing the bullets as they came down the conveyer belt, reminiscent, of the I Love Lucy, chocolate factory episode. You can feel the texture of the lipstick on her lips and hands. Linda has now taken that expertise and love of makeup to @revlon where she not only oversees the creative but has created a new line for Revlon call Flesh @fleshbeauty. The line is everything she loves about makeup. There are 40 base colors to match any skin tone. The makeup has the touch and feel that she would describe to us at the magazine as the ideal way makeup should feel on the skin. The colors are beautiful and the packaging is great - oh and the size of the products allows the user to carry them easily in a small purse. With all she knows about makeup, this line should be a giant success. Yay Linda! Makeup @markcarrasquillo hair @Brent lawler manicure @deborahlippmann @mrs_severin
