@margotrobbie for @vmagazine photographer by @chriscolls Over the last 20 years or so, I have been dressing actors and musicians for the covers of fashion magazines. The timing of when the cover comes out is pegged to when a movie or album is being released. The magazine is just one of the many ways to get the message out that the movie has opened or the album has dropped and get the readers interested. Some of the cover subjects treat the shoot like part of the publicity campaign, turn up, turn it on for the camera and go, others treat is like a trip to the dentist for a root canal. Every so often, someone comes to the studio and sees it as an opportunity to collaborate with us and create images that they will be proud they worked on. Such was the case with the incredible Margot Robbie. She came to the studio and asked to see the clothes- not to see if she liked them or if they were “her style”, but to see what we were thinking for each shot and what character each outfit called for. I kept dressing her, @diegodasilva_ would change her hair, @patidubroff would change the makeup and the wonderful photographer @chriscolls would place Margot somewhere in the studio- leaning on the wall, sitting on a chair or just standing in the middle of the room and together they would create a character. Margot would quietly and slowly move her body and you could see all these emotions come across her face as she moved. It was wonderful to watch and I loved the photos that #V magazine ultimately published. For those few hours I was completely in love with Margot and understood why she is so demand as an actress.
