“To the alderpeople who are going to take a vote today, and to all people listening: know that everyone loves someone who has had an abortion, and that your support sends a message.” Today our Movement Building Manager Alicia Hurtado spoke ahead of the city council meeting, where alderpeople will be voting on the Bodily Autonomy Sanctuary City Act. This ordinance, among other protections, will prohibit any city agency — including CPD — from sharing information that could be used to criminalize people who come to Chicago for reproductive or gender affirming care. CAF and our co-conspirators at Equality IL, Midwest Access Coalition, Brave Space Alliance, Planned Parenthood IL, ACLU IL, IL Nurses Association, and more have been in conversation with Ald. Rossana Rodríguez Sánchez (33rd Ward), Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa (35th Ward), Ald. Maria Hadden (49th Ward), and Ald. Matt Martin (47th Ward) for months, and today is the day we WILL pass this ordinance. 💥💥💥 Excited for this first step in assuring that ALL people can access basic healthcare in Illinois and beyond — without intimidation, criminalization, and barriers.
