!!️I TOLD MYSELF I’D NEVER DO THIS AGAIN.... I listen to a shit load of music every month. I meet a shit load of artists at every show. I’m not sure what to call it, whether it be stereotypes or pre conceived notions, but it’s hard not to let these things control my mindset when working with a high volume of creatives. Whether its an artists appearance, how they approach me, or even how they format an email, I find myself judging, assuming, and thinking I know what’s what before I’ve had a chance to experience it in person...the age old tale of judging a book by it’s cover. On some level, it’s only natural, but I still hate myself for doing it. Over the years, I’ve tried to keep an open mind & open heart when it comes to each individual artist, & each individual slot we have across the country, because I’ve been proven wrong SO MANY TIMES before. In @adinboyer case, I was proven wrong once again. Here, I’m guilty of assumption — I assumed that because he didn’t have a huge social media presence, emailed me out of the blue, and rocked what I now believe to be a one of a kind Rock Star starter pack (consisting of a short sleeved button up + tie + jean short combo) that he wasn’t going meet the par I’ve set for Writer’s Block. I was in the room when he began playing his set @thehotelcafe- instant silence amongst a packed house. his musicianship was top notch. It made me rethink ever sitting down to play the piano again. His stage presence was strong. I felt every word he sang, and while I’ll stand by saying his songwriting has room for improvement, I’ll take authenticity / heartfelt performances over the alternative any day. To Adin, I say well done. To those striving to be judged not by their covers, but by what lay beneath the surface, I say keep truckin. LONG LIVE WRITER’S BLOCK BABY!
