Happy FRIDAY! 🕵🏻‍♀️🖤 What’s everyone reading this weekend?? I’m currently reading a suspense novel I’ve wanted to get my hands on for SO long: THE THERAPIST by @helene.flood!!! Share your Friday reads in the comments 🔎 (bonus points for anyone who’s reading a crime/thriller book this weekend 😉) Honestly... this week kind of kicked my butt & I am SO ready for the weekend. Anyone else??🫠 good news is I recently started reading a book that falls into what is undoubtedly my favorite category of crime book—Nordic crime fiction—so things are looking up. 😉 THE THERAPIST by Helene Flood is *not* traditional Nordic Noir; instead, this is a psychological suspense novel set in Norway! (Nordic Noir = more traditional procedural structure, usually set in a city, etc!! Think: Jo Nesbø, Stieg Larsson, Lars Kepler) Let’s be honest, I will read any and every kind of crime novel from Scandinavia 🤣 and I’m so excited to finally be reading this one. If you’ve loved books by authors like Alex Dahl, check this one out!🤓 THE THERAPIST follows (you guessed it!) a therapist named Sara. Our story begins on a day that starts like any other: Sara’s husband wakes up early to head out for a trip to his friend’s cabin. He leaves her a voicemail letting her know he arrived safely. Sara goes about her day, seeing her clients, going to the gym, making dinner. Then a phone call changes everything: it’s her husband’s friend calling to say he never arrived at the cabin at all. 👀 As hours pass and Sara’s anxiety mounts, she begins to feel an increasing sense of unease in her own home. She can’t help but feel that she’s being watched, and that someone might be trying to get inside her head. 😳 I’m still pretty early on in this one, but so far I’m hooked!!! I always love the way that Nordic psychological suspense tends to be a bit more subtle and slow-burning, AND the way it really leans into character development—and so far, that’s exactly the vibe I’m getting from THE THERAPIST.👌🏻 I’ll of course keep you posted as I read here, but so far, so good!!!🤓🖤 What are you reading this weekend?!
