Ladies first at @comradesmarathon 💃🎉! Since at least 2017, Comrades lets the top women start up front on one side of the road and the top men on the other side. They rope off an area for us, so we aren’t overcrowded and have space for a fair start. It sets a precedence, shows respect to the women, and improves visibility with the public and media. Look closer at our bibs and you’ll see a 40. The women age 40+ crushed the podium this yr, earning 6 of the top 10 places 👊🏅! 7 men age 40+ were in the top 15 and 12 in the top 22! As I say, women (and men!) ultrarunners age like fine wine 🍷👌. I get asked how I’m still doing the sport so well at age 40. I’ve been a competitive runner for 27 yrs now! I’m stronger, wiser, and I take good care of myself 💪. I put my health☝️. I seek out answers and solutions if my body feels off. The body needs to be healthy to perform at your best 👌. There’s endless goals to stay motivated in Mountain/Ultra/Trail ✅. Getting into the sport almost 10 yrs ago (can’t believe it’s been that long 🤯) opened me up to a whole new world and community 🤗. Some races keep bringing you back year after year cause they’re so awesome. I have both short term and long term goals. I want to earn my green number at Comrades and 10-year belt buckle at Western States 💚🤠. I feel like I’m finding a greater sense of joy now than ever 🫶! I love getting out to run every day. I have immense gratitude for what I can do and where my body/mind takes me. I keep learning, improving, and not giving up on reaching goals 🎯🏹. When I race, I can maintain the intense, competitive focus I have, while also enjoying and appreciating all the positive energy around and how amazing it is what we do 👋🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️! Ultras are a transcendental experience that satisfies your soul 💖. It’s very satisfying overcoming all the challenges to reach the finish 🎉🏁. I hope my journey is encouraging to others going through life as a runner.
