I was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. I grew up speaking Japanese and English and would try to go back to Japan to visit family every year. My mother immigrated from Japan all the way to Canada. I am really thankful how hard she worked to pass down Japanese values and traditions on to me and I hope to do so as well. I love pulling inspiration from my culture for my nail designs. Doing my nails has been a great creative outlet for me and I love the nail community here. This nail look is inspired by "hanami" - which literally means "watching blossoms." During this festival, people would often gather with family, friends or coworkers to have picnics and even sing under the cherry blossom trees. This is a tradition that has been around for about a thousand years. The cherry blossoms typically bloom between March and May. As they are in full bloom for only a week or so, you'll see most of the town out taking lots of pictures and just enjoying their beauty. Sakura is also symbolic for renewal or welcoming a fresh start for many students as the Japan school year begins in April.
