It was 59 years ago today that these four precious, innocent, beautiful Black girls were taken by the vile hatred so many of our brothers and sisters have known through this nation’s history. Make no mistake: these girls were murdered in church for no reason beyond being Black. They were not the first and, as we are all solemnly and tragically aware, they were not the last. Their names were Addie Mae Collins, Carole Robertson, Cynthia Wesley, and Carol Denise McNair. And we each share a responsibility to their memories to keep persisting, keep persevering, and keep fighting until all our babies are safe from the scourge of bigotry.
