Emily Adams Bode Aujla started her brand six years ago making mostly one-of-a-kind menswear items: jackets constructed from patchwork quilts, shirts created from handwoven African textiles. She found materials while frequenting estate sales and auctions. The brand, Bode (@bode), expanded to full collections and many of its pieces are adorned with beads, prints or embroidery. Bode Aujla’s dedication to whimsy and color gives her clothes a softness, a kind of femininity. “There is a quietness about her as a person and also about her brand that resonated with men and women. It really is a brand that has no gender,” says Steven Kolb, CEO of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).
