Zoe Boston is an artist who has described her work as “More than paintings, windows into the unseen...”During our last event, it was an honor to have Zoe provide traditional African face paintings to attendees. Within the African diaspora, face painting has deep cultural roots and a diverse range of cultural meanings. Face paintings can indicate status, identify tribes, be used during celebrations, worn as protection in war, or even applied during mourning. The East Oakland Futures Fest Team champions Black women artists -- and are grateful to Zoe for joining us at our last event and sharing her talent, painting people to be in their beauty, and making the wonder of Afrofuturism accessible to everyone in East Oakland.
