Things I needed to hear as a young Desi girl. • I think so many of us grow up with a limited idea of what our future lives can look like. We are presented with examples of what life “should” look like, what’s acceptable and what isn’t, and it’s communicated to us from an early age what the expectations are, especially to our girls. This limits us as Desi females because not only do we then conform to those expectations, we don’t even realize that there are so many opportunities and paths our lives can take. We don’t realize that we can explore our interests, dream differently about our futures, take chances and risks, make mistakes and fail, and make choices in pursuit of our own happiness. • I know that these are privileges. These are privileges that may not have been offered to many of us because we were raised by immigrant parents who just needed to pay the rent, put food on the table, survive. They didn’t have the privilege to prioritize their own happiness or development let alone raise their children in this way. However, as an adult, these are the things I remind my inner child of so that SHE knows. It is never too late ladies! • What’s something you wish you knew as a younger Desi girl? • #BrownMamaTrauma #parentsofig #gentleparenting #momsofig #toddlersofig #healing #breakingintergenerationaltrauma #traumahealing #raisinggirls #girlmom #desigirl #immigrantparents #lifechoices #mentalhealth #desimentalhealth
