Parenting is the most advanced practice I’ve ever done. Staying grounded when my 4month old is SCREAMING his head off. Yoga. Breathing deeply while my toddler screams HIS head off? Yoga. Being present with my two amazing sons and feeling every cell of my being light up when they hug...you guessed it, yoga. Do I miss my pre-kid bendy body? Or having an uninterrupted hour on my mat? Of course! (I mean sh*t, I’ll take 20 min...) But I know now that all those years of waking up before the rest of the world and folding myself into shapes I never thought possible for my body, all while trying to breathe calmly, weren’t actually preparing me to get my legs behind my head further or grab my ankles in a backbend... My dedicated asana practice (the physical poses) was actually preparation for this chapter: when the days feel endless, but the years happen in a blink. I will keep saying it and keep talking about it (and write a book about it): parenting IS yoga I’d love to see your current practice. Maybe it’s poses with your little or maybe it’s napping together. Maybe it’s sitting in a mud puddle or maybe it’s meditating. Please use the hashtag #yogaofparenting and tag me and let’s help remind each other: THIS IS THE PRACTICE. #motherhoodunplugged #parenthoodunplugged #parentingtips #yogateacher #yogamomma
