I don’t know who needs to hear this but...Black people built this country and Miami is no exception. Miami has a rich Black History and I encourage you to explore it on your next trip. Here are five landmarks I think you should add to your Miami Itinerary. The Saltwater Railroad & Cape Florida Lighthouse: The freedom trail for the enslaved escaping to the Bahamas. Lyric Theatre: The venue where Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, and Count Bassie once performed, now houses The Black Archives research center and welcome center. Black Police Precinct and Courthouse Museum: Tours are available. Hampton House: A “Green Book” establishment and dubbed the first luxury hotel for Black people in the South. It’s now a museum. Ward Rooming House: Former safe house for Black and indigenous people during the segregation era, is now part of the National Register of Historic Places and a art gallery. . . . . . . .
