Dame Vivienne Westwood 🌹 One of my first shoots was this one for British Vogue. Vivienne told me just to play and I drew thin black, silent movie star eyebrows and a messy dark blood red mouth on her. After the shoot we all had lunch and she was telling me about her time as a school teacher and how she had taught herself fashion design. That led to a discussion about art and the question, what does it mean to be an ‘artist’ ? Vivienne replied very plainly and matter of fact .... ‘If it comes from the heart, it’s art’. Her words that day had a big effect on me and gave the young me a lot of confidence .... and I just want to say thank you for being an uncompromising, inspiring, trailblazing, maverick and for always staying true to your values.
