Why don’t we always just follow our intuition? When we feel that inner knowing that nudges us to choose what seemingly feels like the opposite of what our mind is telling us. And I don’t mean the small decisions but the big ones. To leave that comfortable job, say yes to that life changing opportunity, to move on from that relationship that’s good enough, create that boundary with the person you feel needs you, change careers, speak your truth, move your entire life to that place that’s pulling you...we feel the nudges. But why don’t we always follow them? To me the easy and obvious answer is the ego. It wants to stay in control and thinks it’s keeping us safe. Or simply fear. But I think there’s a piece to this that is slightly more nuanced. Fear of what exactly? As much as we may glamorize the term “follow your intuition,” as if it’s easy and makes perfect sense. And that by not doing so you experience the consequences of unnecessary pain or suffering, which is typically the case. I think that nuanced piece for not always choosing to follow our intuition, is that we (consciously or subconsciously) know that there are also consequences FOR following it. Following your intuition can initially be a messy, life altering, painful, unraveling that you don’t actually want to go through. But you know that you must choose it anyway. Following your intuition can feel “wrong” to your thinking mind. It requires an immense amount of courage and trust in yourself and source. It requires you to go beyond logic. To let go without knowing what happens next. Following your intuition is not often some magical feeling. In fact it can feel quite the opposite initially. [CONTINUED IN COMMENTS]
