Every rule I know was broken to create this haircut. I used a combination of razor cutting on wet hair, I blew it out straight and then used a straight shear on it to dry cut- I maintained every corner possible in the outline and but diffused every corner in the layering in the layering- which was done vertically, horizontally and yes also diagonally. It is truly a mash up of my foundational knowledge combined with my years of advanced training and then turned upside down in a moment that just came together perfectly on @amandalarson who was such a gem to say “I’m still growing but do what you think.” Which is music to a stylists ears. When Amanda came to @_jillclapper_ and I at @haussalon Nicollet close to a year ago now, her hair was above her shoulders with a slight angle, long to no layering and was brunette. It was tasteful and nicely done and Amanda is #blessed with the good hair but she wanted a change. By consulting as a trio, Jill, Amanda and I all decided this was a change we would grow her into- gradually growing length and adding layers as we went and slowly lightening to this gorgeous bronde to show off the shape and bring out her stunning green eyes. Modernizing hair doesn’t mean it has to get overly edgy or make someone feel like someone they’re not and sometimes change takes time, that’s why developing long term plans with your trusted pros is so important. I styled Amanda’s hair using a 1.25 marcel curling iron- breaking more rules here by curling several of the pieces towards the face but making sure the face framey bits were waved off of her face. I used my fave @randco combo of Dallas volumizing spray and Rodeo Star mouse to pump up the volume and I massages a little bit of Badlands dry shampoo at the roots for in her hair dry for grit, definition and to make her style last.
