RIP Marcio Freire, a big wave legend who tragically died surfing Nazare on Thursday. Marcio was known as one of the ‘Mad Dogs’, who, along with Yuri Soledade and Danilo Couto, were a trio dedicated to pushing the paddle limits out at gigantic Jaws – and in doing so, inspired a whole generation of new big wave surfers. “Marcio would do anything to crack a smile on someone’s face, he just wanted to joke around and be happy, and make other people happy,” Yuri said. “There needs to be more Marcios in the world, people who truly love the sport and big waves, he did all this because he loved it.” A tribute and celebration of Marcio’s life will be live on the site, soon. 📸 @fred_pompermayer .
