IT'S TIME TO #BeBoldEndHyde! Abortion is HEALTHCARE. PERIOD. It’s time that it’s treated that way in federal funding. Everyone, no matter where they're from, or how much they make deserves access to affirming, quality healthcare when they want it, free of barriers & shame. Ending Hyde is a NECESSARY step towards #AbortionJustice After years of tireless advocacy from CAF (including the amazing leadership & abortion storytelling of then-CAF ED Brittany Mostiller) and a coalition of repro orgs– IL passed HB40 in 2017, making IL the 16th state to cover abortion care through state Medicaid funding. This bill was TRANSFORMATIVE here in Illinois, and allowed CAF to be able to offer support to 100% of our callers by 2019, and to expand to regularly fund at 55+ clinics across 7 states. But 34 states don't have Medicaid coverage of abortion — which could change if we end Hyde. Over 50% of our callers in 2022 had Medicaid coverage in a state that DOESN'T cover abortion. Imagine how we could expand our wrap-around support if over HALF of our callers' abortion care was FREE. Our communities deserve #AbortionJustice. Removing Medicaid coverage restrictions allows people more freedom to choose their provider and method of abortion based on what they want – not the cost. NOBODY should have to worry about their livelihood, delay care, or make sacrifices, to get the healthcare they deserve.
