My heart has been on a rollercoaster of extremes these past couple of weeks, from immense joy to paralyzing sorrow. Within five days, four very instrumental and cherished people in my life have passed away. The two magnificent women I publicly honor here are the incomparable Mary Alice & Nichelle Nichols. They were inspirations for my journey in life, advocates and mentors as I navigated my career, and blessings & lights in my life as cherished friends. The years of working on “A Different World” with Mary Alice was a perpetual Master Class in professionalism. The mutual support and laughter with Nichelle was a cultural explosion of joy. It’s been very difficult to find the space between tears to express myself about their passing. I spoke with Nichelle just 4 days before she transitioned. Their light of love & excellence shone brightly for me and countless others. I pray to live a life that reflects similarly to others due to what they deposited in me.
