The Miracle Buck
It’s hard to put this one into words. I’m beyond grateful to finally have my hands on this buck.
On day four of chasing him, I slipped into bow range and sent an @ultraviewarchery arrow his way. He was quartering away, and the shot hit too high, resulting in a backstrap hit. The 4th picture shows him moments after the shot. My stomach sank. There’s no worse feeling as a bowhunter than knowing you’ve wounded an animal.
I watched him and his does for the rest of the morning. That afternoon I managed to sneak back into bow range, but the does busted me before I could get another shot. After they trotted just out of range, curiosity got the best of them and they started filtering back in my direction. The buck followed. I came to full draw and took another shot. Another hit, but not a vital one. I watched him work over the hill with two arrows in him and nothing fatal. It was a sick feeling.
I tried to keep tabs on him the rest of the day but couldn’t turn him up. Near last light, I started hiking draws hoping to find him or at least spot him again. I ended up bumping him from a draw and watched him run nearly a mile.
The next morning, after many prayers, we relocated him and watched him bed. I grabbed my @primearchery and started the stalk. Forty five minutes later I was sitting 25 yards from him and finally able to finish what I had started. It’s incredible how tough these animals are. Their will to survive is unlike anything else.
Thank You, Lord.
