the strangest 36 hours and 44 minutes of my life
there’s no such thing as running an ‘easy’ 100 miles but i can say with absolute certainty that high lonesome has been the toughest challenge i’ve encountered thus far. it’s such an honor to be a beginner at something and the 100 mile distance is humbling to say the least. battling cutoffs for 12 hours with blisters and nausea and sleep deprivation (not to mention 20,000 feet of gain on my legs) was an experience i’m really fricking proud of. there were so many points where it would’ve been so much easier to call it quits and let myself be caught by the cutoffs but @maxmregan really helped pull some magic and grit out of me - i am forever grateful to be marrying someone who doesn’t let me achieve anything less than 110% of what i’m capable of.
this distance is so addictive and i have a full note of mistakes i can correct moving forward. i’m so proud of my training and although i don’t feel it’s reflected in the time per se it’s certainly reflected in the level of grit and perseverance that i had to rise to on this day. if you’re gonna be stupid, you better be tough and when it comes to ultrarunning you better be REALLY tough. i’m so proud of this day and i’m so eager to recover and start prepping for the next one. this sport rocks!!!!!!!
