So proud to have my Terra Nova, Hawaii story included in At Large N° 15.
A wonderful intro by @erikrasmussen_atlarge
Excerpts from my person journal included.
In May of 2019, one year after the lower Puna eruption on the big island of Hawaii I visited to explore the lives of those living with volcanic events effects.

I wasn’t interested in conveying scientific data, centuries of cultural mythologies, or resolutions. I was interested in the moment- where I was, where this place is. What does it feel like to be on the edge of a rift in the soul of the earth?
• Fissure 8, Untitled
In Puna the Leilani Estates were an eerie calm and quiet, the sky and light indifferent. I found an anti-Anthropocene scape, human activity submissive and vulnerable. With all of its heat and immeasurable impact, the event itself seem cold and stern.

An explanation in contrasts, uninvited and conscious of the weight of each step - heal to toe, brittle pumice surface, a viscous solid, sugar breaking into darkness, breathing oxygen and celestial gas I was not present.
• Kainoa
To sit with eyes shut and listen to the Pacifico’s soft waves. Unique audible signature.
• Kalahna-Kapoho Road
Oxygen-rich atmosphere with lush notes of sulfur and sea.
