Narsiso Martinez creates drawings and mixed-media installations that focus on the lives and work of the thousands of migrant agricultural workers on whom we all depend for our food. He makes and assembles his work on and with discarded cardboard produce boxes collected from grocery stores.
Martinez moved to the United States when he was 20 years old. He was born in Oaxaca, Mexico. He went to the Los Angeles, California, Evans Community Adult School and finished high school when he was 29. Martinez worked on farms in Eastern Washington for nine years so he could pay for college. In 2009, he got his Associate of Arts from Los Angeles City College. In 2012, he got his Bachelor of Fine Arts from California State University Long Beach. In 2018, he got his Master of Fine Arts there as well. He lives in Long Beach, which is in California.
