Dive into discovery with Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary! Gray’s Reef is one of the largest near-shore live-bottom reefs in the Southeastern U.S., located offshore of Savannah, Georgia. Unlike a tropical coral reef, Gray’s Reef is not made of hard corals. Instead its sandstone seafloor is a foundation for a colorful carpet of corals, sponges, and sea squirts.
