Record 12,13,14 from Sophia Giovannitti’s Study 4: Collateral, open this weekend - Fri, Sat, Sun, 1-6pm at Duplex. These unadulterated audio recordings convey, verbatim, unfinished business and failed or ongoing transactions between artist and gallerist, artist and documenter, and artist and curator. Listening to any recording requires first the signing of an NDA—though arguably already neutered by the artist’s own disbelief in legal recourse—delineating as “Confidential Information . . . the identity of the person other than the Artist speaking in Record 12, Record 13, or Record 14,” should any listener recognize any voice. In making such recordings public, Giovannitti seeks to simultaneously force consideration of the greatest taboo cloaking young artists and young gallerists—who has the money, how did they get it, and how is it being or not being disseminated—and to address what she herself terms the “core failing” of her work. @sophiaexalted 🖤 documentation by @alicewells
