I talked to @neptune_papers about my time living on Pierrepont Street, a stint that began in tandem with our first quarantine and ended two years later with the threat of world war and a break up.
So much happened under this roof, good and bad alike. Before leaving I wanted to figure out a way to memorialize this time in our lives—to honor this chapter while also closing it. I didn’t want to take glossy photos that might suggest that my life here had been picture perfect, so I called upon Clifton (@gauchecowboy / @gauchefoto) to capture the essence of me and my then-partner, Julian’s, lives in this space with his Polaroid camera. The camera itself doesn’t capture wide interior shots well (they’re often blurry or dark)—something Clifton warned me about—but I embraced this as a metaphor. There’s an honesty about his work and medium that I respond to—unretouched moments in time. No stylists, no post-production, just Clifton doing his thing capturing what he sees. These photos mean so much to me, they’re more than just pictures of my furniture; they’re eerily nostalgic reminders of a challenging and pivotal time in our lives.
I feel so grateful for the opportunity to share these images here, check out @neptune_papers Issue 3 for more. Thank you Clifton, thank you Daytona, thank you Julian.
