"If there’s one thing I crave in this world, it’s NOISE. I crave the crunch of distortion and the warm hiss of tape. Background noise is another voice. Film grain is, itself, a character. ⠀ Perhaps it is the humanity of grain, the chaos of noise, that I crave when working in the world of intangible things. Lines that are too clean feel out of step with the human experience. Perception is textured, altered, saturated, heightened, warped. ⠀ I was watching King Hu’s “A Touch of Zen” one night after Brandon asked me to to do this project and I thought, “Could we make a dance video that felt like this? Like a 70’s martial arts movie with its super-zooms and grit and grain and urgency of movement?” And so we ended up with this small, surreal heist film with only three characters- Marina, Brandon, and the hearty, candy-colored magic of KODAK VISION3 250D Color Negative Film 7207.
