365 days of putting on lipstick in 2023. Because I need to see if putting on a lipstick can change your day, if getting ready and put together each day can make a difference. It sounds silly. I know, but I truly believe it to be possible. I saw it growing up. While battling depressing last year I kept thinking of my late grandmother she had a truly hard life, she couldn’t afford much makeup or beauty products, I never saw her able to go to a hair salon or do anything to truly care for herself, besides ONE thing: lipstick. I saw her put her lipstick on almost as an armure, even in the most difficult times it was like a little pick me up to be able to get trough yet another day. My grand mother always got ready no matter how broken she felt, she put her best foot forward. All together when I was growing up we went trough some truly heartbreaking times, yet whenever I saw her get ready and put on a touch of lipstick I could see her mood change and their confidence grow. I never thought about it that much until a few months ago i was hit with my own battle with depression. I gave up on my self in many ways and in a hope of helping myself I kept doing the opposite; I stoped caring about myself, I stoped dressing up, I convinced myself that it wasn’t important and that I was materialistic for caring about it in the first place. I convinced myself that it didn’t matter that I stayed in my sweatpants for days in a row, I stoped doing my hair and makeup because when I really had to I still did it, you know for others. Then I truly thought about it and reminded myself finally that this is the opposite of everything I believe in. You can only be the best version of yourself to others if you’re for yourself. That there is my biggest mistake and this is a lesson I’m taking and applying in 2023; care for yourself, present your best self every single day for you even if absolutely no one is around.
