Looking at World Oceans Day with different eyes this year. I’ve been a crazy uncle for 10 years now and it’s a blast, but this November I get to be a dad. . This has layered on a lot of emotion and preparation onto an already overflowing plate of art/house projects- but to say I’m excited is an understatement. . I’m guilty of overusing the cliché that sustainability is about enabling future generations to experience the same (or better) environment and quality of life than that which we have experienced. To access wild places and creatures, catch and eat healthy seafood, breathe air unpolluted by the externalities of a society focused on “endless growth” over health and happiness. That old cliché has never felt truer. . So we gotta keep stoking out the kids! Keep ‘em off the screens and on the water. Let’s make art that blows their minds and gets them to think! Let’s encourage them to care more than we did at their age. I’ve given talks to thousands of K-college students over the last couple of years with @countercurrent_art and from the questions and conversations I know they’ve got what it takes to turn the ship around. . Laura has been an absolute champ the last 5 months, working full time and helping me out on tight deadlines on Oahu. She’s going to be an awesome mom and I can’t wait for the party ahead. I’m a bit freaked out about it all but my experience as an artist has taught me that if you’re not scared you’re not growing! Love your mother Ocean!
