If you’re not talking about Jackson, Mississippi, you need to.
Right now, an entire American city doesn’t have safe water; not to wash their hands or flush their toilets. Not wash clothes or put out fires. The city is also over 80% Black with 1 in 4 residents below the poverty line. But the water troubles in Jackson is not new. In prior years, Jackson’s residents and surrounding areas were forced to boil water to make it safe to drink and warned not to shower with their mouths open. In 2016, there were elevated levels of lead. Even the EPA has issued warning of dangerous contamination in Jackson’s drinking water. The residents were under a “boil water” notice for 225 days last year. In 2020, 2 bills went up to assist, and the Republican led government shut them down. Y’all, this is an indictment of how we treat those who are most marginalized.

And this is a reminder that elections have consequences and racism and classism are alive and well.
