Six years ago I began listening to @earhustlesq Podcast, created & produced inside San Quentin State Prison. EarHustle features stories of the daily realities of life inside San Quentin, shared by those living it. The podcast was a real eye opener for me, & totally changed my perspective of prison life. When my buddy @magicstoryteller called me earlier this year & asked if I wanted to fly out & perform my show inside San Quentin as part of their mental health awareness week, I couldn’t say YES fast enough. Last night, Taylor & I performed magic, told stories, & brought laughter to 150 men who haven’t laughed in years. Many of them 25 years or more. We were greeted with such kindness & appreciation. As a professional goofball, no achievement is higher than turning grown, strong, tough men into belly laughing children for an hour. As an avid listener of EarHustle, I have learned a lot about these guys over the past 6 years. Being able to connect voices to real life faces was totally surreal. I am so grateful for the countless opportunities show biz has given me. This was an experience I will never forget, and the closest to being as cool as Johnny Cash as i’ll ever be.
