Haaaaaay, LA! Excited & honored to open and close the @laphil’s N2M today with Tuning Meditations by our beloved Pauline Oliveros at 🌞 noon and 🌝midnight. At 10:30pm, I'll play a set of Oliveros' works at Disney Hall with three of my favorite humans on the planet -- Senem Pirler, live electronics, Joshua Rubin, clarinets, and Steven Schick, percussion. We'll end the set with the premiere of a new staged version--directed by the amazing @thewinsomebrown--of Pauline's last piece for flute, "Intensity 20.15, Grace Chase," with texts by my late grandmother Grace in dialogue with Pauline's extraordinary (she once described it as "extraterrestrial"... 👽) Expanded Instrument System, played tonight by the phenomenal @s_pirler. My hope is that this new rendition honors both of these women--my adopted grandmother and my real one--in all their brilliance, resilience, unapologetic complexity, and grace. See you there!
