It’s graduation day for some of my babies!
I don’t usually let my propagations live in water, because I think it requires a bit more maintenance than I’m willing and able to give. I much prefer to transition them to soil when i think they’re ready.
When their roots are good and established I’ll transition them directly into a clay pot. If their roots still look a bit fragile, I’ll still pot them in soil but in a clear plastic pot that allows me, and the sun, to see their roots. I’ll sit that plastic pot right in the window sill until the roots get stronger which has worked really well for me.
In terms of my soil mix:
Y’all already know I swear by @good.dirt’s potting soil. It contains BogBitsTM️ which allow the roots to breathe, and eliminates the need for a lot of other amendments that I used to use like fir bark (which breaks down over time). I add a little systemic granules in my soil for pest control. Lastly, I water with @good.dirt’s Plant Food which isn’t salt based so I’m able to use it every time I water my plants to give ‘em nutrients.
And dassit! Do y’all let your props live in water or transition them? If so, how do y’all transition your plant babies?
(Btw —full transparency— this is not an ad. I am not affiliated with Good Dirt but I love their mission and values and have had really good experiences with their products!)
