When Brazilian visual artist Hélio Oiticica — a leader of the Neo-Concrete Movement — died in 1980, his vision for a series of multi-sensory spaces in New York’s Central Park went unrealized. This May, Socrates Sculpture Park brought his proposal to life in Queens with “Subterranean Tropicália Projects: PN15 1971/2022” — a 40ft diameter immersive circular structure on view through this weekend, August 14. Since 1986, Socrates Sculpture Park — the brainchild of legendary sculptor Mark di Suvero — has supported over 1,000 artist projects and transformed a once-abandoned waterfront site into a hub of public art and cultural life. Entry is always free, but if you can’t visit in person, head to the @socratespark digital guide in the #BloombergConnects app for video, photos, and audio insights from curator Jess Wilcox. 🔗 in bio. ---- #SocratesSculpturePark #PublicArt #PublicArtwork #PublicArtNYC #HélioOiticica #HelioOiticica #BrazilianArt #SculpturePark #SculptureLovers #ModernArchitectureDesign #PN15 #Creleisure #ItsInQueens #LongIslandCity #AstoriaNY
