What is a Low Residue diet (contains less than 10-15g fibre a day) Why follow a low fibre/low residue diet (LRD)? A low fibre/low residue diet is recommended when people need to avoid foods that may irritate an inflamed bowel (such as with Crohns disease or Ulcerative colitis, or an episode of diverticulitis) or if the bowel is a narrowed in parts and at risk of obstruction. People are also advised to follow a low residue diet a few days prior to a colonoscopy to aid preparation of the bowel or following bowel surgery Unsurprisingly, some people find themselves constipated so may need medication to help whilst on this diet, till a point is reached where you are able to reintroduce some fibre. What can I eat? Grains * White breads and plain crackers (unseeded) * Cooked cereals, like farina, cream of wheat, and grits * Cold cereals, like puffed rice and corn flakes * White rice, noodles, and refined pasta Fruits and Vegetables * Peel the skin and discard any seeds from the fruit and vegetables as these are full of fibre. * Well-cooked fresh vegetables or canned vegetables without seeds, like asparagus tips, beetroot, green beans, carrots, mushrooms, spinach, squash, and pumpkin * Avocado * Cooked potatoes without skin * Tomato sauce (no seeds) * Ripe bananas * Melon: Soft cantaloupe, honeydew * Tinned or cooked peeled fruits without seeds, for example, apple sauce or canned pears Drinks * Decaffeinated drinks including coffee and teas as caffeine can upset your stomach and increase transit through the gut. * Milk (unless lactose intolerant) * Smooth juices made without seeds or pulp * Strained vegetable juices Any other advice In addition to my reel welcome from those who know or have experienced LRD below ⬇️⬇️ Hope that was helpful? #lowresiduediet #lowfibrediet #lowfibre #fibre #inflammatoryboweldisease #crohns #colitis #ulcerativecolitis #bowelsurgery #diverticulitis #colonoscopy #reintroducingfibre #diarrhoea #constipation
