FRIULI-VENEZIA GIULIA Mount Lussari’s summit is considered one of the most beautiful peaks in the Julian Alps. The two-hour hike along the steep Sentiero dei Pellegrini (CAI 613) is demanding but worth the effort. However, if snowshoes and crampons are not your cup of tea, you can also ascend by cable car from Camporosso. With the bell tower amidst the snow-covered roofs as your north star, head towards the Sanctuary of Mount Lussari, a historic site of worship that attracted pilgrims from three lands: Italy, Austria and Slovenia. Now known as the tiny but picturesque Borgo Lussari, dwellings were built on this very site over the years to accommodate visitors on their spiritual journey. Segui il campanile in mezzo ai tetti innevati e ti troverai di fronte al Santuario, detto anche Chiesa “dei tre popoli”: italiani, austriaci e sloveni. Qui, nel corso del tempo sono nate le abitazioni per ospitare i pellegrini, oggi diventate il minuscolo ma pittoresco Borgo Lussari.
